Not-so-traditional tips to prep your home for spring

Longer days, warmer weather, blooming flowers and trees; Spring is just around the corner and boy, are we ready. After a long winter indoors, we’re itching to stretch our legs, bask in some sunshine and refresh our homes for the new season. Here are a few of our favorite ways to celebrate Spring at home!

“Marie Kondo” your space

You know it’s real when your name has become a verb. For those of you that don’t know, Marie Kondo is a Japanese organizing consultant and author whose new show, “Tidying Up” has taken Netflix by storm. This expert introduces a new meaning of spring cleaning by utilizing the “spark joy” method. It’s simple: as you’re going through clutter in your home, hold each individual item in your hand, and evaluate if it sparks joy in your heart. If it does, take the time to find a place for it in your home that’s intentional. If not, it’s time to say goodbye.

A mindful decluttering of our space not only helps us to rid our lives of material items that we don’t need, but also gives us gratitude for what we already have. Watch “Tidying Up” on Netlfix for advice from the expert herself!

Diffuse all the oils

Essential oils – they’re all the rage right now, for good reason. Even if you don’t want to dive into the unending list of health benefits derived from essential oils, they’re still excellent for aromatherapy. Buy a diffuser from your local HEB and diffuse the following oils to boost your energy, brighten your mood, and cleanse the air:

  • Lavender Oil – use this versatile oil for relaxation, sleep, and curing headaches
  • Lemon Oil – mix with water to make a natural surface cleaner, or diffuse as a refreshing air purifier
  • Tangerine Oil – this oil brings a vibrant scent and is also known to boost your mood
  • Cedarwood Oil – use for a fresh, earthy scent that brings the outside in
  • Geranium Oil – gives your home a fresh, flowery smell!

Jam out to a new playlist

While you’re tidying up this Spring, get loose to a new, happy playlist. One of our current favorites is Spotify’s “Have a Great Day!” playlist, filled with classics that are known to get your feet tapping. So kick off your shoes, push the furniture to the side, and have your own little dance party!

Adopt a few green friends

What better way to get in the spirit of spring than planting some new blooms or adopting a new houseplant? Both are simple ways to usher in a fresh atmosphere. Don’t have the greenest of thumbs? Not to worry, here are a few houseplants that are fool-proof:

  • Snake plant
  • Golden Pothos Ivy
  • Fiddle Leaf Fig

You may want to do a little research on care instructions for these plants, but they’re truly hard to kill!

Freshen up with some Gracious Garlands greenery

Fresh garlands and wreaths are the perfect way to breathe garden party vibes into any space. Use on your mantle, banister, doors – all over, for a boost of color and texture!
