The Autumnal Equinox: where light and darkness meet, a day of balance and of perfect harmony.
This Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending a day-long retreat for women. Held intentionally on the eve of the Equinox, the theme was around balance and preparing our hearts, minds and bodies for a season of rest.
The day was filled with acupunture, gentle yoga, community connection, tree bathing and lessons on how to bring harmony and balance to our female bodies.
The host read a passage about the meaning of the Equinox as we commenced. I was struck by the profound wisdom that nature yet again reflects back to us: there is no light without the darkness, no joy without the suffering, no new life without death, no relief without pain, no activation without rest, and no flowers without fall.
And one more thing: this too shall come to pass.
Our lives are ever-changing and if we are in a season of Fall or Winter, we have the promise of Spring and Summer on the horizon. But this also means, if we are in a season of Spring or Summer, Fall and Winter are sure to follow.
If we zoom out, to take a broader look, everything is always in balance. How we find that balance is through perspective.
This perspective feels a bit like a luminal space-- suspended in time, like the equinox, where we stand in the middle of order and chaos, the only place where real freedom and peace can be found.
A promise that nothing lasts forever and that health equals balance.
If we can carry with us this harmonious perspective of the Equinox, will this help us meet each day with more presence, abundance, intention, gratitude and love?
